Raritan’s VRF System: Built for Longevity

07.26.2024 | News, Product

When Raritan High School in New Jersey installed their VRF HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system in 2017, proactive measures were taken to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for students. This project was a notable change, especially considering that prior to this initiative, the classrooms had old, outdated heating and air-conditioning systems that were inefficient to operate, maintain and provided limited comfort. Their new high efficiency HVAC system ensures higher comfort levels for both students and staff alike.

Kappa Construction, a well-established family-owned general contractor with over 45 years of experience in the public sector in New Jersey was assigned the project of revamping the HVAC system. George Kamaratos, Project Manager at Kappa Construction, said “The project documents called for the installation of Slimduct RD to cover all exterior piping between condensing units and their respective building wall/pipe portal penetrations.”

Slimduct RD features a proprietary anti-corrosive, scratch-resistant, hot-dipped, and chromium-free coating made of zinc, aluminum, and magnesium, which provides a more durable alternative to galvanized steel. This tough and rugged product also features a highly professional finish that blends in perfectly with any type of building.

The project's scope was extensive, involving installing 21 Trane VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems with 160 indoor ceiling units, alongside various 1-1 split systems, convectors, rooftop units, and exhaust fans. The flexibility of Slimduct RD allowed for customized installation orientations, ensuring all linesets were properly enclosed and protected, whether running horizontally on rooftops or vertically along walls.

This comprehensive HVAC upgrade not only addressed immediate comfort needs but also enhanced energy efficiency and sustainability, aligning with today’s educational standards. By investing in innovative technology and prioritizing indoor air quality, Raritan High School has set a precedent for other districts striving to create safe, healthy, and conducive learning environments.

Raritan High School’s commitment to excellence in HVAC infrastructure served as a model for leveraging expertise and innovative products to meet the demands of a rapidly changing educational landscape. Raritan High School's proactive approach to HVAC system enhancement underscores the critical importance of investing in robust infrastructure such as their schools to support the health and success of future generations.
